Institute Of Technology STEM Day

11-07-2025

James and Heather recently represented BGB at the annual Lincolnshire Institute of Technology (LIoT) STEM Challenge, promoting engineering to school pupils from across Lincolnshire. This year’s Engineering Challenge invited schools to design and build a homemade crane mechanism capable of picking up and pyramid-stacking six blocks.

Held in the EPIC Room at the Lincolnshire Showground, the final saw over 100 Year 9 students take part, showcasing their creativity, teamwork and problem-solving skills.

“It was fantastic to see the students so engaged with the challenge. Some of the designs were genuinely exceptional,” said James Tupper, BGB’s Head of Marketing. “The winning team stacked all six blocks perfectly in under a minute—absolutely mind-blowing! There was also a great deal of interest in our wind turbine model and products, which sparked some really enthusiastic conversations about careers in engineering.”

The event was a brilliant opportunity to inspire the next generation of engineers and encourage young people to explore the possibilities within STEM subjects.
