NikeLab Launch Party London 11.06.2014

W.H. Skinner were approached in May 2014 by SAMLUDGATE DESIGN who had been commissioned to design a cardboard exhibition structure for the London launch party of NikeLab 1948 LDN, the innovative new concept store from Nike. Our brief was to provide a cardboard engineering & production service and assist with the installation of a series of cardboard hexagons which came together to form a creative installation titled 'Innovation by Innovators'. Held at the Village Underground in Shoreditch on 11.06.2014, the event was designed to showcase a series of footwear design collaborations whilst having a low environmental impact, hence the choice of corrugated cardboard as the main material of construction. The cardboard hexagons were engineered to support several times their own weight, since the overall design called for them to be stacked above head height and form archways. Fixing the hexagons together in an aesthetically pleasing manner presented a few challenges, but all technical issues were solved. In addition to the stacking hexagons, W.H. Skinner were also asked to design wall mounted iPad holders, trainer display light boxes, and vertical displays which included a shelf on which to display NikeLab products, all from corrugated cardboard. The installation was finished with printed vinyl, coloured light, and projected images which added colour and movement to the completed appearance of the project.
