Tinsley Viaduct

Client: Highways Agency Main Contractor: Interserve PLC Site: Tinsley Viaduct, M1 Sheffield Commencement: 2006 Completion: 2009 Scope of Work: Tinsley Viaduct is a two-tier road bridge in Sheffield, England; the first of its kind in the UK. It carries the M1 and the A631 1033 metres over the Don Valley, from Tinsley to Wincobank. Primarily built from box steel girders it allowed the viaduct to be strengthened in 2006, a very complex operation which took over 3 years to complete at a cost of £82 million. The amount of equipment needed to complete this project was huge and SIE was called upon to supply the specialist equipment necessary to make the contract run as efficiently as possible. With the Viaduct being over 1 km in length and most of the work being carried out within the box beam spine of the structure maneuverability around the site was paramount so SIE's PERV units were the ideal solution. Consisting of an EDCAR (dust extraction) SIEVAC (vacuum recovery) and a generator the PERV unit is trailer mounted so it can be moved quickly without much effort. SIE also supplied high pressure abrasive blasting machines, protective coating application equipment along with a full supply chain of consumable products.
