Eriez® Achieves Recycling Milestone with 50 Shred1® Ballistic Separator Sales

11-04-2024

Eriez®, a global leader in recycling solutions, celebrates the sale of its 50th Shred1® Ballistic Separator, marking a significant milestone in the adoption of this pioneering technology. Since its introduction, Shred1 has gained widespread acceptance among leading scrap yards worldwide, with early adopters such as OmniSource LLC. setting the pace. This achievement holds particular significance for Eriez as OmniSource, a prominent North American processor, distributor, and manager of scrap and secondary metals owned by Steel Dynamics, Inc. (SDI), not only acquired the 50th Shred1 unit ever sold but also stood among the first companies to integrate Shred1 into their operations. Mike Shattuck, Eriez-USA Recycling Market Manager, acknowledges OmniSource's pivotal role in Shred1's development by providing essential analytical feedback through online real-time analysis of the separated metal fractions. He affirms that this performance analysis offered Eriez invaluable insights necessary to bring Shred1 to market successfully. With over a decade of presence in the market, the Shred1 Ballistic Separator has earned global recognition for its innovative use of permanent magnets and ballistics, enabling efficient separation of copper-bearing materials from shredded steel recovered by scrap drum magnets. This groundbreaking technology yields two distinct fractions: a high-quality low-copper ferrous product (typically containing 0.16-0.20% copper) and a traditional #2 shred. Jon Kunze, Project Engineer at OmniSource, lauds Shred1's exceptional reliability, stating, "Shred1 empowers OmniSource to consistently produce a higher quality and more dependable product that SDI can confidently utilise." He underscores the importance of Shred1's ballistics in ensuring superior consistency, especially compared to conventional methods like polishing drums and X-ray systems. Kunze highlights OmniSource's preference for Shred1 due to its straightforward design, describing it as a "plug-and-play" technology. He commends Eriez' commitment to exceptional customer service and fostering seamless partnerships, stating, "Our collaboration with Eriez is effortless. The Eriez team is readily available whenever we require assistance." With the growing demand for low copper shred from steel mills, Eriez foresees sustained interest in Shred1 both domestically and internationally. Shattuck expresses gratitude for the support from OmniSource and other innovative partners, anticipating further promotion of Shred1's game-changing technology on the international stage.
