Starchy foods continue to be a prominent part of school menus

LAST week the Secretary of State for Education, the Rt Hon Michael Gove MP, published the School Food Plan, drawn up by Henry Dimbleby and John Vincent, co-founders of Leon restaurants. The premise of the Plan is to increase the quality and take up of school meals (currently 43%), and to divert some of the £1bn parents spend on packed lunches back into school meals. The Plan also encourages schools to develop a strong food culture that will inspire a love of good food in children, boost their academic performance and help them to lead healthy lives.
