Slip Rings Enhancing Efficiency in the Wastewater Industry

17-11-2023

Have you ever considered the role of slip rings in the wastewater industry? Our latest foundational educational piece sheds light on how slip rings contribute to operational optimisation for water companies. A key function of a BGB collector column or slip ring is to facilitate the transfer of power and signals from stationary cables located at the axis of rotation to the rotary scraper bridge. This slip ring plays a crucial role in transferring power to the drive motor of the scraper bridge and the control panels mounted on the bridge. This enables the continuous movement of the scraper, allowing it to travel seamlessly through a complete 360-degree rotation. Positioned at the centre of the sedimentation tank or sludge tank, the collector column or slip ring assembly is situated on the PST (Primary Settlement or sedimentation tank) bridge. This bridge is specifically designed to decrease the velocity of wastewater flow, facilitating the settling of heavier organic solids, commonly known as raw sludge. The slip ring ensures that the bridge (or in some cases, the tank) can rotate slowly around its axis, providing power and/or signal transmission without the risk of cables becoming entangled.
