Engineering Firm Makes Senior Appointment To Accelerate Product Roadmap
Global engineering firm BGB has strengthened its team by welcoming back Dr Ben Murphy as Head of Product Development.
Founded in 1976 and headquartered in Grantham, BGB employs 100 people across the UK and the United States. The company works with industry leaders such as Siemens and Vestas. In his new role, Ben will oversee the advancement of BGB’s Fibre Optic Rotary Joint (FORJ) product range while driving the firm’s ambitious product development roadmap.
Ben initially joined BGB in 2018 as a Research and Development Engineer, specialising in FORJ technology—a critical device enabling high-speed data transfer of optical signals across various applications, including wind turbines, cable reels, manufacturing equipment, and drones.
Now returning to the business, Ben brings experience in automotive, yellow goods, agri-tech, and both academic and commercial research. His focus will be on addressing potential future market challenges faced by BGB’s customers and expanding the company’s technological capabilities to deliver robust solutions across energy, construction, utilities, and transport sectors.
Commenting on his return, Ben said:
"I’m really pleased to be back at BGB. Heading up product development is central to the next stage of the business’ evolution. BGB’s engineering credentials are exceptional.
"Within a small team, we have over 60 years of product development experience, multiple degrees up to PhD level, and expertise spanning academia, research, and manufacturing. It’s hugely exciting to rejoin such a talented group, and I already have plans to expand our FORJ product range and capabilities. This will help meet our customers’ growing needs for lossless, secure data transfer and improved operational efficiency.
"The family culture at BGB is what makes this place unique. Even during my time away, the team’s support was unwavering. This ethos fosters long-lasting relationships, not only within the team but also with collaborators and customers, many of whom have partnered with us for decades. I’m thrilled to return to a company that prioritises innovation, quality, and outstanding customer service."
David Holt, CEO of BGB, added:
"We’re delighted to have Ben back on board. He will play a crucial role in advancing our product roadmap as we navigate the next phase of the company’s growth. Keeping in touch with former team members like Ben is a testament to our commitment to building lasting relationships and investing in talent.
"Ben’s exceptional skills and customer-focused approach align perfectly with our values. His decision to return underscores the importance of fostering a strong organisational culture that encourages talented individuals to remain connected with us."
