Peek Carbon Fibre Testing
Sonatest were asked to investigate several samples of PEEK carbon fibre based products using the Rapidscan System, to demonstrate the capabilities of this system with components of this type. The most commonly occurring defect within these panels was porosity around the edges. Addtionally there was an "irregular" shaped component that exhibited laminar cracking throughout. This report includes images of all the inspected components obtained using RapidScan and a brief description of the observed defects. The components to be tested consisted of two plates, approximately 18” x 18” x 1” and 12” x 18” x 1” in size respectively. There were three strips, approximately 17” x 1¾” x 11/16” in size and an awkwardly shaped component, approximately 1” in thickness. Complete scans of all of the components were captured. The awkwardly shaped component proved difficult to inspect and it would be recommended that a jig is built if such a shape is to be scanned regularly.Visit the Sonatest Ltd website for more information on Peek Carbon Fibre Testing
