Pakawaste reaches new heights

14-04-2015

Pakawaste limited, the UK’s market leader in the manufacture and supply of waste handling equipment, has reached new heights in waste management, 3,560ft (1,085m) to be precise by supplying the perfect fit waste handling solution to Snowdon’s iconic mountain railway. Snowdon Mountain Railway is the only one of its kind in the UK and takes visitors on a journey of a lifetime to the rooftop of Wales, where they can enjoy stunning scenery and awe-inspiring views. Hundreds of thousands of people visit the summit building Hafod Eryri every year which puts pressure on the logistical management of the centre with the old method of waste disposal proving insufficient for the growing needs of the centre. Pakawaste was approached and given a very unique problem to solve by supplying a modern waste management equipment system with limited space to operate whilst reducing the amount of waste movement required. Pakawaste’s LF1100 was the ideal solution, a powerful compactor designed to increase payloads of wheeled containers. This reduces waste disposal costs and can minimise the number of wheeled containers required. It requires minimal floor space and the design incorporates a system to raise the container off the ground during the loading process which prevents damage to the wheels of the container. Two-handed operation ensures safety and the low noise level (less than 75db) was ideal for the mountain top environment. Lee Abbott, National Technical Sales Manager at Pakawaste, commented “We are very proud to have supplied the highest compactor in the UK. The system helps, in its own small way, to maintain the magnificent setting of Hafod Eryri by reducing the amount of waste handling required, eradicating loose waste and unsightly bags. It is also much safer, keeping waste minimised and the area tidy which makes areas like these far less hazardous and more hygienic.” Pakawaste has had many unique challenges since it was founded in 1976, supplying a wide range of balers, both vertical and horizontal balers, static to portable compactors, waste transfer stations, material recycling facilities (MRF’s), bins and bin equipment and a variety of specialist bespoke waste handling systems around the world – but this one is way up there
