Pakawaste provide bespoke solution for Qatar’s iconic convention centre

Pakawaste limited, the UK’s market leader in the manufacture and supply of waste handling equipment, has supplied a bespoke waste management system to the new Doha Exhibition and Convention Centre, Qatar. The Doha Exhibition and Convention Centre (DECC) is another gem in Qatar based architectural icons. The Exhibition Centre will be an important regional and international exhibition location, with expansive retail area dedicated to luxury brands and exhibition space. With parking for nearly 5,000 vehicles and a multi-function hall, the Convention Centre spans an area of 90,000 square metres. Located in the lively West Bay area of Doha, the DECC will be housing one of the biggest halls in the world. The construction of the centre is reported to be almost complete and it is expected to be handed over to the government by the end of this year. One of the attractions of the convention centre is the massive space it will offer to event organisers. The centre has five big halls that are column-free. Their combined area is more than 32,000 square metres and their height 18 metres. The pillar-free halls will enable exhibition organisers to take in big machines, cars, boats and other heavy equipment easily inside the halls. The vast spaces are enough to accommodate around 3,500 visitors at a time and the halls can be merged by removing partitioning. The client ASMA (Arabian Specialised Materials Co.) is member of the Al Jaber Group Companies, one of the most reputed conglomerates within Qatar, had originally discovered Pakawaste online. They were finally selected for the project because of their environmental credentials and reputation for excellence within the waste management market. Pakawaste where originally approached with some simple drawings and a request to supply specified equipment. However, on closer inspection by Pakawaste’s technical team it became apparent that the requested equipment would not fit in the allocated space. Time was of the essence so Pakawaste had to move fast to design and supply 3 bespoke Powerkrush 95 compactors with integrated loaders and compaction containers and one P1000 with integrated loader. The project installation was supervised by one of the Pakawaste team to ensure everything ran smoothly and completed on time despite the added pressure caused by the bespoke nature of the project. Commenting on the completion of this high profile contract, Pakawaste CEO David Hamer said: “The timescales on this project were very tight and unfortunately the requested machines, which the client had initially selected via our website, where not a fit for the allocated space which put the pressure on. Pakawaste have also recently opened a dealership in Ahmedabad, India, and have a commissioned agent in Bangalore. Since working with UKTI the business also now sells to a range of overseas markets including Australia, France, Italy, Germany and the Middle East, with UK customers such as Asda, Sainsburys and B&M Bargains as well as Jaguar Land Rover, hospitals, logistics firms and major waste contractors. Pakawaste’s next target market is America, where it is due to open a dealership in Chicago this year.
