Is PS18 better than PS14?

11-11-2021

We’re commonly asked if the PS18 is a better adhesive than the PS14 based on the fact it’s slightly more expensive. In a word, no. The two adhesives are made for different purposes and aren’t in direct competition, while there is a large overlap of substrates both adhesives will adhere to there are some specific materials neither of the adhesives ‘like’. This is where they differ, the PS18 is designed to ‘fill the gap’ for the materials the PS14 adhesive isn’t designed for. There are two different substrates the PS18 is NOT suitable for, polyethylene and polypropylene. Polyethylene is the most popular plastic in the world, making products such as grocery bags, shampoo bottles and children’s toys. Polyethylene is a more flexible plastic than polypropylene. Common examples of polypropylene products are lunch boxes, plastic buckets and yoghurt pots. All other substrates, with the exception of fabrics are ideal for the PS18 adhesive. The PS14 isn’t the most ideal for polyethylene or polypropylene but it will stick to the products with these chemicals in much better than the PS18. The PS15 is the most suitable for polyethylene and polypropylene applications.
