Winter is coming – check your water cooling systems! As the first signs of winter are showing with the days getting shorter and the mornings colder, it is time to check the glycol levels in your water cooling systems. To prevent unexpected downtime and unnecessary repair or even replacement costs, it is advised to check the glycol levels in your cooling equipment to prevent frost damage. There are two main types of glycol; Ethylene and Propylene - Ethylene for systems associated with the industrial applications but note is highly toxic and Propylene for systems associated with the food industry. Ideal concentration would be 25% to 30% thus preventing system from freezing in ambients down to minus 10°C to minus 16°C. Too much glycol will result in reduced cooling duty.
